The High Pressure Foaming Autoclave is designed to perform rapid gas decompression (RGD) experiments or even explosive decompressions (ED) for foaming studies.


A solid polymer sample is placed into the autoclave and saturated with a gas (e.g. CO2) under high pressure and temperature. The autoclave is automatically decompressed with rates up to more than 150 bar/s.

The expansion of the solid material can be observed through two sight glasses.
